Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear stance in agreement that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Ideas are extended with explanations and relevant examples, such as mentioning unexpected medical emergencies, job loss in the AI era, and investments through SIP or stocks. While the ideas are relevant and properly supported, some supporting points tend to generalise or repeat slightly in terms of content, placing the response solidly in Band 6.0 or 7.0. The development is coherent and directly answers the prompt requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response features a clear overall organisation with a discernible introduction, two distinct body paragraphs focusing on security and long-term goals respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences and paragraphs, such as 'In addition', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical, and occasional phrasing like 'The mail reason' indicates minor organizational flaws. Overall arrangement is coherent, matching the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'financial security', 'unexpected situations', and 'long-term goals'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'mail reason' instead of 'main reason', 'give people to backup support' instead of 'provide people with backup support', and 'stars save money' instead of 'start saving money'. Despite these vocabulary errors and a few spelling slips, the meaning remains clear throughout, aligning with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions, tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'gave people to backup', 'teenager who save'), and article errors ('from early age'). While these errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score, they rarely impede overall communication or obscure the writer's meaning, which justifies a Band 5.5 score.
