Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowdays, concern of investing and saving money for future is crucial for everyone. Some argue that, it is important to save money for their upcoming future including young people. I totally agreed on this statement, because money is the one thing in our life that play important role in our life.

One major reason is money can buy happiness. Although lot of people struggle in life due to finacial background. Many of us did not realise creating income is not important, how you save the income through investment in various ways like mutual funds and stock market or buying gold. consquenctly it help in future to avoid unnecessary expense. For example a boy is buying chips on regular basis and won't save money, what if instead of spending money on unusual things might encourage him to buy books and essential for school.

Another important benefit is that savings can help young people achieve long-term goals. Many important things in life, such as buying a house, starting a business or continuing higher education, require a large amount of money. If people start saving a small amount from an early age, they can gradually build enough money for these purposes. For instance, a university student who saves part of their income from a part-time job may eventually have enough money to pay for a professional course. This can improve their career opportunities in the future.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. It can protect them from unexpected financial difficulties and help them achieve important personal and professional goals.r

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement and presenting supporting arguments throughout the body paragraphs. In the first body paragraph, the candidate discusses how managing and investing income avoids unnecessary expenses, supported by the example of a boy buying regular chips versus books. The second body paragraph explores achieving long-term goals like buying a house or pursuing higher education, exemplified by a university student saving part-time income. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or casually reasoned, such as the statement 'money can buy happiness,' which is not fully substantiated. The position is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical progression, utilizing paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, distinct main ideas, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One major reason is', 'Another important benefit is', and 'In conclusion', to guide the reader through the structure. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise, and some transitional expressions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'consquenctly it help in future'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but minor cohesion faults keep the score at a solid Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'mutual funds', 'stock market', and 'professional course'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('Nowdays', 'finacial', 'consquenctly') and occasional word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'upcoming future' (redundant) and 'unusual things' instead of 'unnecessary things'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the range is sufficient to meet the Band 6 requirements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and conditional structures, such as 'If people start saving... they can gradually build...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('a boy is buying chips', 'pay for professional course'), punctuation issues ('Some argue that, it is important'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('it play important role'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the text from reaching a higher band score.
