Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the importance of saving money for young people and providing arguments to support it, such as financial stability, achieving long-term goals, and developing financial management skills. They also acknowledge a counter-argument regarding limited income among youth. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat hindered by formulaic structural templates such as 'To explain it that...' and 'To justify it that...', which detracts from natural elaboration. While the main aspects of the prompt are covered, the reasoning remains slightly superficial at points and could be extended further with more concrete examples. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts with relevant, albeit somewhat under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and distinct paragraphs for introduction, main body points, counter-argument, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices and signposting language is often mechanical, repetitive, and occasionally non-standard, such as 'To commence with, there are several reason for save money by young people. Firstly Financial stability. To explain it that people may face...' Furthermore, referencing and sentence linking are sometimes faulty due to punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas) and sentence fragments. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion could be smoother. This level of organisation aligns with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, where organisation is visible but cohesion is mechanical and repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including terms like 'financial stability', 'emergencies', 'unnecessary spending', and 'personal developments'. However, there are numerous word-choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'save money is important', 'all age of group', 'incomee', 'theey', 'beecome', and 'managment'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but frequently inaccurate or misused. These lexical errors and awkward collocations occasionally create strain for the reader, though communication is generally maintained. This performance reflects the descriptors for Band 5.0, where vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task but marred by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms, infinitives, and sentence structures (e.g., 'save money is important for future for all age of group', 'reasons which will outline in forthcoming fragment', 'saving from a young age are helps people', and fragment sentences starting with 'To explain it that'). Punctuation is also problematic, with habitual spacing errors before punctuation marks and run-on structures. While some error-free sentences exist, the frequency of basic grammatical errors places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
