Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response presents a clear and well-reasoned position that strongly agrees with the prompt regarding the importance of saving money. The introduction outlines the main stance, and body paragraphs present relevant ideas such as financial emergencies and long-term independence. However, the essay is incomplete because it stops abruptly in the third paragraph, leaving the final idea underdeveloped and failing to reach the minimum word count of 250 words. Due to this significant under-length issue and incomplete task completion, the score is capped at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a basic logical structure with an introduction and distinct body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Furthermore' and 'For instance'. However, referencing and paragraphing suffer from the sudden truncation of the text, and some sentences lack proper transitional flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete. Overall arrangement shows some organisation, but the progression is cut short, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, including phrases like 'financial security', 'unpredictable nature', and 'economic recession'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'financila', 'forthe', 'ermergencies', 'btter', and 'levelihoods'. These errors show limited control over word formation and spelling, although communication is generally maintained, placing this criterion at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts some complex structures, such as relative clauses in 'Individuals who who put away portion of their income'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('provide a safety for net'), subject-verb agreement issues ('financila security play'), and repetitive structural mistakes. Punctuation errors are also present, such as incorrect comma splices and fragments. Because of the frequent errors and the inability to complete sentences towards the end, the grammar is reflective of a Band 5.0.
