Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that saving money is important for everyone, including young people. The writer provides relevant ideas to support this view, such as fulfilling basic needs in the future, avoiding financial stress, and maintaining a good social status. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the example about buying an electric bike in China illustrates personal experience, but the explanation regarding social status relies heavily on an anecdotal relative rather than fully developed societal arguments. Despite these limitations, all parts of the task are addressed and a clear position is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing and logical progression are hindered by frequent mechanical or faulty cohesive devices. Words like 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'As a result' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. For example, the sentence 'When he do work and earn lot of money' disrupts the flow within the second body paragraph. Additionally, there are pronoun reference issues, such as 'when i was child i was have habit'. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 to 6 range, with Band 5 reflecting repetitive and sometimes inaccurate cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about finance and lifestyle. However, there is a limited range and frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'youngster of world', 'totaly', 'statment', 'fullfill basic need', 'qaulity', and 'moeny'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'financial stress' and 'social status', spelling and morphological mistakes are noticeable throughout the text ('bacame', 'fished'). These errors do not completely impede communication, which aligns with the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'money is like an oxygen of life' (missing article), 'youngster... is' (plural/singular mismatch), 'when everyone bacame adults' (tense error), 'I was need to travel' (incorrect passive/active mix), and 'he go to other relatives' (missing third-person 's'). These errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 criteria for grammar.
