Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that it is important for everyone, including young individuals to save money for their future. Others believe that their income should not be saved for the future as their are uncertain what the future hold. I largely agree that it is essential for everyone to save money for their future because it provides financial security and financial regulation.

Financial security is one of the reasons for saving. It is often said that we live in a world of uncertainty where some circumstances can be overwheleming such health issues, loss of job.Having a savings makes individuals to have what to bank on in time of crises. For example, a man whose employment contract was teminated might be financially stable till he gets a new job. Therefore, savings money for the future can save in time of need.

In addition, some people are impulsive spenders and lack financial control as regards their revenue. Financial regulation is another advantage of saving money for both young and old. Putting a measure to what is being spent will help individuals to achieve a targeted goal. To illustrate, a child who recieves money as gift might squander it on frivolities rather than saving it. As a result, saving money for the future prevents unnecessary spendings.

In conclusion, people enjoy to live a day at a time by buying whatever they desire without saving for their future. I strongly believe it is important for everyone regardless the age to have financial savings for their future because it can be use as a backup plan and prevents unnecessary spendings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant ideas. The writer agrees that saving money is essential for both young people and adults, developing two main supporting points: financial security and financial regulation. The arguments are extended and supported with examples, such as a man whose employment contract was terminated or a child receiving gift money. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, and the ideas could be pushed slightly further for higher-level depth. Nevertheless, the requirements of the prompt are fully met with a clear and consistent stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs supporting the main stance, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'In addition', 'To illustrate', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some minor mechanical errors in cohesion and referencing, such as 'their are uncertain' instead of 'they are uncertain' and minor awkwardness in transitional flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, ensuring that each main idea receives its own dedicated paragraph. Overall, the text is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'financial security', 'impulsive spenders', 'frivolities', and 'backup plan'. However, there are several lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including spelling and morphological mistakes like 'overwheleming' (overwhelming), 'savings money' (saving money), 'spendings' (spending), and 'regardless the age' (regardless of age). While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary control is sometimes inconsistent and attempts at less common words result in occasional inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures successfully. There are, however, several grammatical and mechanical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('their are uncertain' and 'a child who recieves') and preposition omissions ('regardless the age'). Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, and simple sentences are generally accurate. Punctuation is mostly acceptable, though there are minor spacing errors between sentences. The control of grammar aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, featuring a combination of error-free sentences and frequent minor errors.
