Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is crucial for everyone, including young individuals, to save money for their future. I completely agree with this statement.

Saving money for the future is very important because nobody knows what the future awaits for them and having money to deal with that problem helps people. For young people planning to settle in the near future, saving money is necessary. Young people learn the sense of responsibility by saving a part of thier earning, it may not be much but by doing so they make it like a habit. For example, I did an internship in the year 2024. My father forced me to save atleast 10 percent of my earning, which was very less. After few months my mobile phone broke unexpectedly, thanks to the savings I did I could get it fixed. From then onwards, I made it an habit to save atleast 10% of my earnings.

Other people might disagree and say that young people should explore and enjoy with the money they earned or with the money their parents gave. Experiences teach many lessons which cannot be taught in classrooms or college. With the money, young individuals should try to gain more experiences. Nonetheless, balance between enjoyment and responsibility should exist. Advice from mature adults would be to save some money and then enjoy with rest of the money. Yet another example, saving money throughout my second internship helped me buy a new gpu better than the university issued gpu, which helped my research work a lot.

In conclusion, the advantages of saving money outweigh the disadvantages. For young people to grow as better individuals, sense of responsibility is very crucial and saving money from young age provides that.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and discussing both the necessity of saving for young people and counter-arguments regarding enjoyment. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant personal examples, such as the internship savings covering a broken phone and purchasing a GPU. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise and could be further elaborated with broader societal examples rather than just personal anecdotes. Overall, the task is addressed well, matching the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid 7.0 by presenting a clear position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the issue, and a concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the transitions between sentences (e.g., repeating 'Yet another example'). Referencing and substitution could be more varied to ensure smoother logical progression. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to meet the Band 6 descriptors comfortably.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'crucial', 'unexpectedly', 'responsibility', and 'gpu'. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'thier' instead of 'their', 'atleast' instead of 'at least', and 'very less' instead of 'very little'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies and a reliance on slightly repetitive vocabulary ('young people', 'money'), communication is never impeded. The lexical range is sufficient to meet the Band 6 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'For young people planning to settle in the near future...'). There are some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'what the future awaits for them' (unnecessary preposition) and 'made it an habit' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors exist, the majority of sentences remain clear, meaning they rarely impede communication. This performance aligns well with Band 6 standards.
