Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt effectively, taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the statement that saving money is important, especially for young people. The student supports this stance with relevant arguments, such as handling unexpected situations, buying houses, and funding education. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive or under-developed, and the progression of thoughts occasionally lacks depth. For instance, the mention of travelling abroad and funding children's education are briefly touched upon without extensive elaboration. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are appropriately covered, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0 performance under this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, utilizing standard introductory and concluding paragraphs alongside body paragraphs marked by transitional phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. For example, cohesive devices are occasionally mismanaged, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in run-on sentences and punctuation slips (e.g., 'There are several advantages of saving money, firstly, life is unpredictable...'). Paragraph progression is somewhat hindered by grammatical turbulence and awkward transitions, placing the response solidly at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'unpredictable', 'financial security', and 'economic stability'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'benefical' instead of beneficial, 'eduction' instead of education, 'situdation', 'contamporary', 'mone', 'yong', 'busines', 'consideable', 'depended', and 'luminous' used instead of obvious or clear. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some awareness of subordination and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'the saving money', 'every individuals', 'a person have', 'mostly problem from mone', 'to taking everything into account', 'the holding a financial stability'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several comma splices and run-on sentences. These recurring errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
