Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that money should be saved for everyone, including the young and adults for their future. I however, strongly agree with this statement and think that everyone should save money because money is essential for peaceful and stable life and money also brings happiness.

There is a wide range of reasons why I think that money should be save for future, one reason is, money is essential to lead a luxury life. With money persons can easily buy their expected things. As they can buy their preferred things it gives them a satisfaction and they feel peace and happy. Another reason is, money helps to lead a stable life. When a person sees that there is enough money on his/her bank account they find hope and they try to be stable. As they can be stable they can be free from anxiety and tension. As a result they often lead a balanced and happy life.

There are two more reasons why I believe that everyone should save money, firstly, life has ups and down, some people earn a lot at a time but suddenly they may get lost in their business and even sometime they can fall in financial cricis. When a pesron saves enough monery they can easily overcome this situation and they can easily lead a happy and comfortable life. Secondly, a person may get ill suddenly. As the person is sick, the person cannot earn properly and he/she need more money for treatment if the person cannot provide sufficient money for treatment they become more worried and when they cannot get proper treatment for shortage of money they feel helpless and frustrated.

In conclusion, as money brings happiness and help to lead a peaceful life. Everyone should save money for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the prompt that everyone should save money for the future. The ideas are generally relevant, discussing luxury, stability, and handling emergencies such as unexpected illnesses or financial crises. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive and somewhat superficial, often relying on simple assertions rather than deep elaboration or varied examples. For instance, the points about happiness and peace of mind are reiterated across multiple paragraphs without being significantly extended. Despite these limitations in development and depth, the writer maintains a consistent stance and covers the prompt adequately, aligning best with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the response into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on different reasons, and a brief conclusion. However, the cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on transitional phrases like 'Another reason is', 'There are two more reasons why', 'firstly', and 'Secondly'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'When a person sees that there is enough money on his/her bank account they find hope', where pronoun agreement shifts awkwardly from singular ('a person') to plural ('they'). While logical progression is maintained throughout the text, the rigid and repetitive linking devices prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score, placing it comfortably at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to finance, such as 'financial crisis', 'luxury life', and 'stable life'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('cricis' instead of crisis, 'pesron' instead of person, 'monery' instead of money) and occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'get lost in their business' or 'provide sufficient money for treatment'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, inaccuracies in spelling and word form prevent the response from reaching Band 7. Communication is not impeded by these lexical slips, which is characteristic of the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over subordinate clauses such as 'When a person sees that there is enough money...' and 'As the person is sick...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous punctuation errors, run-on sentences, and comma splices, such as in the opening sentence ('I however, strongly agree...') and throughout the body paragraphs. Additionally, minor agreement issues and awkward phrasing appear, such as 'money help to lead' in the conclusion. While complex structures are attempted, they are frequently flawed, and the frequency of errors places this response at Band 5.5.
