Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in agreement with the statement. The writer attempts to present supporting ideas, such as preparing for emergencies and starting small businesses, and includes a personal example about a bakery shop. However, the development of these ideas is limited and sometimes shifts in perspective, particularly in the body paragraphs where pronouns fluctuate awkwardly between first person and third person, as seen in 'with these capital i can enjoy my own benefits. Although everyone in our society would enjoy these funds'. While the main parts of the task are addressed, the lack of fully extended and consistent supporting points places this response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing basic paragraphing structure. However, logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward referencing and mechanical cohesive devices. Words like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly' are used, but the links between sentences are often disjointed and confusing. For instance, the transition from discussing personal savings to the counter-argument in paragraph three lacks a smooth bridge ('On the other hand, there are few arguments that all people never agree with savings'). Pronoun referencing, such as shifting between 'your', 'my', and 'they', creates confusion about who is being discussed. These issues reflect Band 5.0 characteristics for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to convey a basic message, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'protect your cash for later period', 'resources diminished', and 'budget savings'. There are also awkward phrasing choices such as 'substantial escalation in their assets' and 'plenty of time'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in collocation and word formation—such as 'its play a crucial role' and 'these capital'—impede natural flow and occasionally cause strain for the reader. These features align closely with a Band 5.0 score for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples of grammatical errors include 'This statement is a controversial issue today whether it is important', 'its play a crucial role', 'Adults can start there small business', and 'its portray favourable role'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces and incorrect capitalization in places. Because complex structures are frequently faulty and errors cause some difficulty for the reader throughout the text, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
