It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued by everyone including young people, should save money for their future. I agree with this view because saving money can provide financial security and help young people deal with unexpected situations .

First of all , saving money from a young age can help people become financially independent. Young people may not have many responsibilities at the beginning of their careers, so they can put a small amount  aside from thier income. Over time ,these savings become a useful financial reserve . For example , a young person who saves part of their salary every month may eventually have enough money to pay for higher education  , buy a car, or start a business without depending heavily on their family .

Another important reason is that having savings can protect people from unexpected expenses. Life is unpredictable , and people may suddenly need money for medical treatment , unemployment , repairs , or other emergencies . If they have no savings , they may have to borrow money or rely on others . Therefore, developing the habit of saving can reduce financial stress and give people greater peace of mind .

However , this does not mean that young people should save all their money and avoid spending it . They also need to enjoy their lives , develop their skills , and spend money on useful experiences . The key is to maintain a reasonable balance between present needs and future security .

In conclusion , I strongly agree that young people should save money for their future . Although they should enjoy their present life , developing good saving habits can make them more independent and better prepared for unexpected financial difficulties.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response fully addresses all parts of the task by clearly presenting a position on whether everyone, including young people, should save money for their future. The writer agrees with the statement and supports this stance with well-developed ideas, such as achieving financial independence and preparing for unexpected expenses. Furthermore, the essay includes a nuanced concession in the fourth paragraph acknowledging that young people should also enjoy their lives and maintain a reasonable balance, which elevates the development of the argument. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as paying for higher education or buying a car, placing the performance solidly within the Band 7 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with financial independence and moving on to unexpected expenses, followed by a counter-perspective and a clear conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Another important reason', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to separate different aspects of the discussion. Although some punctuation spacing issues appear around commas, referencing and overall progression remain clear and logical, fully satisfying the requirements for Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision, employing appropriate terms such as 'financial security', 'financially independent', 'financial reserve', and 'unpredictable'. There is also a successful attempt to use less common phrasal items and collocations, such as 'put a small amount aside' and 'reduce financial stress'. While there are some minor mechanical spelling and spacing errors (e.g., 'thier' instead of 'their', and irregular spacing around punctuation), the lexical range is adequate for the task and does not impede communication. This performance aligns well with Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on standard descriptors, or solidly a 6.0 for controlled resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer uses a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conditional and dependent clauses effectively (e.g., 'Young people may not have many responsibilities at the beginning of their careers, so they can put a small amount aside...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, demonstrating good control over grammar. However, minor punctuation and spacing errors persist throughout the text, such as spaces preceding commas and full stops (e.g., 'situation .', 'First of all ,', 'example ,'). Despite these minor mechanical flaws, the grammatical control is strong, meaning errors rarely impede communication and the structural variety supports a Band 7 score.
