Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, it has become extremely important to save money not only for adults, but also for younger age groups for thier bright and successful future. This essay will discuss both advantages and disadvantages of the given perspective. I strongly agree in saving money from an early age because it builds strong mindset in spending, investing and growing money. Though only saving money for future possibility of financial crisis can loose an actual essence of living.

There are several advantages of learning to save money for everyone, including youger generation because it brings long-term financial security, stability and sustainability. For example, if children are taught to spend money vigilantly in their childhood, they tend to grow as financially mature and responsible human beings. Parents introduce the concept of saving money to their children by getting them portable piggy banks. As a result, out of excitement of filling the piggy bank with money, children learn to ignore impulsive buying of unwanted toys, games and clothes. These qualities play a major role in shaping an individual's spending habits in the future. It is well said that a little amount saved today can save an individual from drowning in debts and loans during an undesirable financial downfall.

While saving money has always become a catalyst for a secure future, one should never loose the purpose of living a happy and fulfilled life. If an individual gets trap in a loop hole of earning and saving money without considering their wants and needs, this concept can also bring negative effect in their current lifesyle physically and mentally. For example, exccessively saving money leaves very little room for an individual to listen to their own inner voice. Consequently, it fades the feeling of happiness and fulfillment in the life.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with the perspective of saving money not only for adults, but also for younger generation because it helps to inculcate lifelong qualities of financial literacy, investment and growth. Though one should not stop living a meaning life for themselves in fear of securing the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument and clearly stating their position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the essay's prompt asks whether everyone should save money ('To what extent do you agree or disagree'), yet the second paragraph introduces the topic as the advantages of learning to save money, creating a slight disconnect with the essay plan stated in the introduction where the student mentions discussing 'both advantages and disadvantages'. The disadvantage discussed is the potential loss of the essence of living, which is adequately developed with examples. Ideas are generally supported, though some over-generalisation exists. Overall, the task is addressed well enough to achieve a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing different aspects, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, logical progression is slightly hindered by the mismatch in the introduction where the writer promises to discuss 'advantages and disadvantages' of saving money, but the body paragraphs actually discuss the benefits of saving alongside the potential downsides of excessive saving. Referencing and paragraph transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately overall.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'financial stability and sustainability', 'impulsive buying', 'financial downfall', and 'financial literacy'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'thier' instead of 'their', 'loose' instead of 'lose' (occurring multiple times), 'exccessively', 'lifesyle', and 'meaning life'. These lexical slips and minor inaccuracies prevent the response from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'if children are taught to spend money vigilantly in their childhood, they tend to grow as financially mature and responsible human beings.' However, grammatical errors are present, including articles and prepositions ('agree in saving money' instead of 'agree with saving money', 'gets trap' instead of 'gets trapped', 'fades the feeling'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors occur, they rarely impede communication. The control over grammar is characteristic of a Band 6.0.
