Student answer (Band 6.0)

Saving money for future is essential for everyone, including young people because it builds financial security, teaches good habits, and creates future independence. While saving is important, individuals must also enjoy the present rather than solely focusing on future financial security. I strongly agree that saving is important for each individual to secure their future and balance their life to enjoy present.

It is strongly recommended and crucial for individuals, including youth to save money for their future plans. Building financial saving provides security in every part of life as well as gives confidence to tackle every hard situation. Students have to save a portion of their salary or pocket money into saving box or account, if any university emergency pop-up, they can handle that situation with ease, same goes for adults, they should also save a portion of their salary to deal with the house expenses. For example, if a person is stuck in any medical emergency or any other situation related to house expenses, then that saving will help him to step out from that problem.

Furthermore, saving money teaches good habits, it creates a sense of wise spending, budgeting, and discipline and also helps in compound growth.

On the other hand, it is equally important to live in the present rather than solely focusing on future saving. Balancing current enjoyment with financial planning ensures a fulfilling life without missing out on today's opportunities. For instance, travelling or study abroad requires physical vitality and fewer life responsibilities, making the youth ideal time for such pursuits. Furthermore, if young people are only focusing on accumulating on saving money, they risk missing out on irreplaceable personal growth and memories.

To sum up, it is very important for each individual to save a portion of their money for future needs and enjoy their present at the same time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout. The writer agrees that saving money is important while also highlighting the need to balance it with living in the present. Ideas are well-extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning university emergencies, house expenses, and how youth is the ideal time for travelling or studying abroad. However, paragraph three ('Furthermore, saving money teaches good habits...') is rather brief and under-developed compared to the surrounding paragraphs. Overall, the task is covered well, meeting the criteria for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with a logical layout, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the argument, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'While saving is important', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, as seen with the recurring use of 'furthermore' and phrases like 'saving money' and 'future saving'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. This level of organisation aligns well with a Band 6.5 or 7.0, comfortably securing a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and collocations such as 'financial security', 'compound growth', and 'physical vitality'. There are, however, some noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'saving for future is essential' (missing article), 'saving box', and 'accumulating on saving money'. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and communication is never impeded. These features reflect the Band 6.0 descriptors, where the vocabulary is adequate and attempts uncommon words with some inaccuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('if a person is stuck...') and subordinate clauses ('while saving is important...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('Saving money for future', 'youth ideal time'), punctuation issues (run-on sentences like 'Furthermore, saving money teaches good habits, it creates...'), and awkward phrasing ('to balance their life to enjoy present'). While these errors do not impede communication, they persist frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching Band 7.0, making Band 6.0 the most appropriate score.
