Student answer (Band 6.5)

Financial resources are essential for a happy life. It is argued that money should be saved for the future by everyone. This essay will discuss why it is important for everyone to keep savings for the future. I agree with this statement and believe that money should be saved for future. However, we aslo should strike a balance between spending money now and saving some for the future to have a balanced life style.

Our income sources are not always guaranteed and we may lose jobs or business due to uncertainities. Whether it is a job or business, they are not reliable when world is going through a difficult stage. Economies do not always grow the same and there may be recession. Therefore, saving money for difficult time is absolutely necessary to rescue ourselves from potential worsening economic situations in the future. For example, hundreds of people have lost jobs to the AI boom these days and people who prepared for this several years ago are better at handling this situation. Furthermore, unplanned medical emergencies may require a lot of money suddenly and one should have emergency funds for such scenarios.

A person's physical health affects his ability of earning to a greater extent. There is a specific age bracket in which a person is physically strong and can work easily as compared to the old age. People may struggle to pay the the expenses of education, health and other necessities of their children in the old age. That is why one should work and earn as much as he or she can in young age to save money for the difficult times. For instance, there is an increasing understaning in the new generation to earn in young age, retire early and spend carefully in the old age.

Despite the benefits of saving money for the future, we should also understand that spending money on necessities is also essential for daily life and we should not live hand to mouth just to save money. It is not a sustainable and healthy life style. Instead of this, we should spend and save some money as well.

In conclusion, saving money for future is important as our income sources are not always the same and we may lose these sources. Also, we cannot work in every age as it requires healthy physicall conditions. Therefore, I agree that money should be saved for future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. The writer clearly states their position in the introduction ('I agree with this statement and believe that money should be saved for future') and maintains this stance throughout the essay. Main ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as job losses driven by the AI boom and medical emergencies, which help extend the discussion. The writer also acknowledges the counter-perspective that spending is necessary for a balanced lifestyle, satisfying the requirement to present a well-rounded argument. While some points could be explored in even greater depth, the coverage is strong and fully satisfies the Band 7 criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with the introduction, moving to economic uncertainties and medical emergencies, then physical health constraints in old age, the counter-argument regarding daily spending, and finally a succinct conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'That is why', and 'Despite the benefits' are used effectively to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive ('money should be saved for future'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, maintaining overall coherence from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using less common items and topical phrases such as 'financial resources', 'unplanned medical emergencies', 'retire early', and 'sustainable and healthy life style'. There are some minor spelling and lexical errors, such as 'uncertainities' instead of 'uncertainties', 'aslo' instead of 'also', and 'physicall' instead of 'physical'. However, these errors are occasional and do not impede communication, allowing the vocabulary score to comfortably sit in the Band 6.5 to 7 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional-style structures ('If it is a job or business...') and subordinate clauses ('Despite the benefits of saving money for the future, we should also understand...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, demonstrating a good level of control over basic and intermediate grammar. However, a few minor inaccuracies persist, such as 'pay the the expenses' (repetition) and 'work in every age' rather than 'at every age'. Overall control is solid, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
