Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving, I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop habit of saving their money for future. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.
One of the main advantage of saving money is that it provides financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies such as medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared to cope with such challenges without relying on loan and financial assistance. For example, during covid 19 pandemic, many people who had emergency funds can be used for manage their living expenses despite losing their source of income.
Moreover, saving from young age encourages responsible financial habits. Learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition money saved over long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals such that pursuing higher education, starting new business, or purchasing a new home without any financial pressure. Hence you can enjoy luxuries.
Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives and invest in individuals and personality development. Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure can enrich career advancement. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wisely,is a practical solution.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is very essential for people of all ages. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and help segment of individuals to achieve their goals while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. The introduction clearly states a strong agreement with the statement. Throughout the body paragraphs, the writer provides well-reasoned arguments such as financial stability during emergencies and the development of responsible financial habits. Examples are integrated, such as mentioning the COVID-19 pandemic, although it contains minor phrasing issues. Ideas are generally well-extended, though some further elaboration on how young people specifically can start saving could have enhanced the depth. Overall, the task is successfully covered, earning a solid Band 7.0 for addressing all parts with a clear and maintained position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting with an introduction, followed by arguments regarding emergencies and financial discipline, a counter-argument paragraph, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to connect ideas, such as 'One of the main advantage', 'Moreover', and 'Admittedly'. However, there are occasional minor mechanical errors in referencing and article usage that prevent a higher band, such as 'Hence you can enjoy luxuries', which lacks a smooth logical bridge to the preceding sentence. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, resulting in an overall coherent flow that earns a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to good range of vocabulary suited for an academic discussion, including terms like 'financial security', 'unpredictable world', 'economic recessions', and 'compound interest'. There are several attempts to use less common lexical items, with varying degrees of success. Some minor lexical and collocation errors occur, such as 'develop habit of saving' (missing an article), 'main advantage' (should be plural 'advantages'), and 'come at expense of' (missing 'the'). Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary choice does not impede communication. These characteristics place the lexical resource squarely within the Band 6.0 descriptor range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating an ability to construct subordinate clauses and conditional thoughts ('Although spending money on higher education...'). However, there are frequent minor grammatical errors, particularly regarding article omission (e.g., 'develop habit', 'at expense of', 'from young age') and preposition usage. There are also occasional tense and agreement slips, such as 'many people who had emergency funds can be used for manage' which contains a混淆 in voice and structure. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede communication, allowing the essay to achieve a Band 6.0 for grammatical accuracy and range.
