Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving, I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop a habit of saving their money for the future. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.
One of the main advantages of saving money is that it provides financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies such as medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared to cope with such challenges without relying on loan and financial assistance. For example, during covid 19 pandemic, many people who had emergency funds can be used to manage their living expenses despite losing their source of income.
Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. Learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition money saved over a long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals such as pursuing higher education, starting new business, or purchasing a new home without any financial pressure. Hence you can enjoy luxuries.
Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives and invest in individuals and personality development. Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure can enrich career advancement. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at the expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wiselyis a practical solution.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is very essential for people of all ages. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and help segments of individuals to achieve their goals while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the necessity of saving money for young people and presenting a clear position that is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning the 'covid 19 pandemic' to illustrate the importance of emergency funds. The introduction and body paragraphs successfully explore multiple facets of the argument, including financial stability, responsible habits, and long-term investment. While some arguments could be extended further, the coverage is thorough and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with logical organization. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as emergency funds, financial habits, and the counter-argument regarding personal enjoyment. Cohesive devices are utilized effectively to guide the reader, seen in phrases like 'One of the main advantages', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are minor cohesion and referencing flaws, such as the dangling clause 'Hence you can enjoy luxuries', which disrupts the flow slightly, and occasional punctuation issues around transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate displays a sufficient and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common lexical items such as 'financial stability', 'economic recessions', and 'compound interest'. There are occasional word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'skill exposure' instead of 'exposure to new skills' or 'skill development', and 'invest in individuals' instead of 'individuals' development'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating good control over overall grammar. Examples of successful complex structures include 'Although spending money on higher education... can enrich career advancement.' However, there are frequent minor errors, such as tense and agreement slips ('many people who had emergency funds can be used', 'help segments of individuals'), missing commas, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wiselyis a practical solution'). Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded.
