Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving, I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop a habit of saving their money for the future. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.
One of the main advantages of saving money is that it provides financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies such as medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared to cope with such challenges without relying on loan and financial assistance. For example, during covid 19 pandemic, many people who had emergency funds can be used to manage their living expenses despite losing their source of income.
Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. Learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition money saved over a long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals such as pursuing higher education, starting new business, or purchasing a new home without any financial pressure. Hence you can enjoy luxuries.
Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives and invest in individuals and personality development. Although spendings money on higher education, travel and skill exposure can enrich career advancement. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at the expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wisely, a practical solution.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is very essential for people of all ages. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and helps segments of individuals to achieve their goals while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear and well-developed stance that individuals of all ages should save money. The introduction clearly outlines the writer's position, and the body paragraphs present relevant, well-extended ideas concerning financial stability, emergency preparation, and the development of financial responsibility from a young age. Examples, such as referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, are used effectively to support the main arguments. The counterargument in the fourth paragraph acknowledges the importance of spending on personal development, successfully maintaining a balanced view without derailing the main thesis. Overall, the task is comprehensively addressed, earning a solid Band 7.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and overall progression from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central theme, such as emergency preparedness or financial discipline. Cohesive devices are utilized to connect ideas, as seen with phrases like 'One of the main advantages', 'Moreover', and 'Admittedly'. However, there are minor cohesion and referencing flaws, such as the incomplete sentence structure in the final sentence of paragraph four ('a practical solution') and slight awkwardness in transitions like 'Hence you can enjoy luxuries', which prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Overall, the flow is logical and easy to follow, aligning well with Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited for an academic essay. Less common lexical items are attempted, including 'financial stability', 'economic recessions', 'financial discipline', and 'unforeseen circumstances'. There is a general awareness of collocation and style, although some minor errors occur, such as 'spendings' instead of 'spending', 'growing a strong compound interest' instead of 'earning compound interest', and 'starting new business' missing a plural article. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the vocabulary is varied enough to allow precise communication of ideas, easily satisfying the requirements for Band 6.5 or a strong 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional-like reasoning and relative clauses ('Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, though a few grammatical slips persist throughout the text. Examples include 'during covid 19 pandemic' (missing articles and capitalization), 'emergency funds can be used' (tense/voice mismatch with the past context), and the fragment 'a practical solution' in paragraph four. Punctuation is generally controlled, but minor slips do not impede overall communication. The grammatical control and range displayed safely place this response at a Band 6.5 level.
