Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving, I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop a habit of saving their money for the future. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.
One of the main advantages of saving money is that it provides financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies such as medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared to cope with such challenges without relying on loan and financial assistance. For example, during covid 19 pandemic, many people who had emergency funds can be used to manage their living expenses despite losing their source of income.
Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. Learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition money saved over a long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals such as pursuing higher education, starting a new business, or purchasing a new home without any financial pressure.Consequently, individuals can enjoy luxuries.
Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives and invest in individuals and personality development. Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure can enrich career advancement. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at the expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wisely, a practical solution.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is very essential for people of all ages. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and helps segments of individuals to achieve their goals while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear, well-supported position agreeing that everyone, including young people, should save money. The arguments are logically developed and supported by relevant examples and explanations. For instance, the discussion on emergency funds during the pandemic and the benefits of compound interest effectively extend the main ideas. Although there is a minor grammatical slip in the conclusion, the overall task is fully addressed with well-extended and supported ideas, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, introduced effectively with cohesive devices such as 'One of the main advantages', 'Moreover', and 'Admittedly'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct aspects of the argument, including the counter-argument acknowledging the importance of spending. While referencing and paragraph transitions are generally clear, some minor mechanical transitions and phrasing in the conclusion prevent it from reaching a higher band. Cohesion is managed well overall.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, such as 'financial stability', 'economic recessions', 'financially disciplined', and 'compound interest'. There is an awareness of style and collocation, demonstrated through expressions like 'distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings' and 'unforeseen circumstances'. However, there are a few lexical inaccuracies or awkward collocations, such as 'skill exposure' instead of 'exposure to new skills', and a fragment in the fourth paragraph ('a practical solution' missing a main verb). The range is adequate to allow clear communication and meets the criteria for Band 6.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses, conditional ideas, and participial phrases effectively (e.g., 'Individuals who have built up savings are better prepared...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, alongside a few noticeable grammatical slips. For example, in the second paragraph, 'many people who had emergency funds can be used' contains a subject-verb agreement/voice error. In the fourth paragraph, the final clause 'a practical solution' lacks a copular verb. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, demonstrating a solid Band 6.5 level of grammatical control.
