Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving. I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop a habit of saving their money for future use. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.

One of the main advantages of saving money is providing financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies, medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up their savings are better prepared to cope with challenges without relying on loans and financial assistance. For example, during covid 19 pandemic, many people who had their emergency funds can be used to manage their living expenses despite losing source of income. Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. On the other hand, learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition, money saved over a long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals by pursuing higher education, starting a new business and purchasing a new home without any financial pressure. Consequently, individuals can enjoy luxurious life according to a evolution.

Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives, invest in individuals and personality development. Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure enrich career advancement. However, these objectives should not come at expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where portion of income is saved and remainder is used wisely, is a practical solution.

In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is essential for all ages. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in economic growth and development of organization. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and helps groups of individuals to achieve their goals for better life while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear and well-developed position that saving money is essential for everyone, including young people. The response presents relevant main ideas, such as financial security during unexpected situations and the long-term benefits of developing financial discipline early in life. These points are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as referencing the COVID-19 pandemic and compound interest. Although the conclusion includes a slight overgeneralization regarding economic growth and the development of organizations that was not fully discussed in the body paragraphs, the overall task fulfillment easily satisfies the requirements for a Band 7.0 by offering a clear position throughout and supporting ideas adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with the introduction of the thesis, followed by well-structured body paragraphs addressing stability, discipline, and counter-arguments, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the main advantages', 'Moreover', and 'Admittedly' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is managed appropriately. However, a minor mechanical error in sentence structure occurs in the introduction where a fragment is created ('rather than saving. I strongly agree'), and some referencing could be smoother. This places the essay solidly at a Band 7.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for some flexibility and precision. Phrases such as 'financial stability', 'unexpected situations', 'financial disciplined adults', and 'compound interest' illustrate an appropriate use of topic-specific language. The writer also attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'evolution' and 'personality development', though word choice is occasionally awkward or imprecise (e.g., 'grow a strong compound interest' instead of 'earn compound interest', or 'luxurious life according to a evolution'). Spelling is generally accurate, and occasional lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication, matching the criteria for Band 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. Examples include 'Individuals who have built up their savings are better prepared...' and 'Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure enrich career advancement.' However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction ('rather than saving. I strongly'), a subject-verb agreement error ('skill exposure enrich'), and missing articles or prepositions ('come at expense of'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical performance within the Band 6.5 range.
