Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today’s unpredictable world, financial security has become increasingly important. While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving. I strongly agree that everyone, regardless of age, should develop a habit of saving their money for future use. This essay will demonstrate the reasons for this view.

One of the main advantages of saving money is providing financial stability during unexpected situations. Emergencies, medical expenses, job loss and economic recessions could occur without warning. Individuals who have built up their savings are better prepared to cope with challenges without relying on loans and financial assistance. For example, during covid-19 pandemic, many people who had their emergency funds can be used to manage their living expenses despite losing source of income. Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. On the other hand, learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spendings helps young people to become financially disciplined adults. In addition, money saved over a long period of time can be invested, allowing it to grow a strong compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve their goals by pursuing higher education, starting a new business and purchasing a new home without any financial pressure. Consequently, individuals can enjoy luxurious life according to a evolution.

Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives, invest in individuals and personality development. Although spending money on higher education, travel and skill exposure enriches career advancement. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved and remainder is used wisely, is a practical solution.

In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is essential for all ages. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in economic growth and development of a organization. It provides financial security, promotes discipline and helps groups of individuals to achieve their goals for better life while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position on whether everyone, including young people, should save money. The writer introduces relevant ideas regarding financial stability, emergency preparation, and discipline, supporting them with examples such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there is a minor sentence fragment in the introduction ('While some people believe that young individuals should spend their earnings on enjoyment rather than saving.'), the overall stance remains consistent and fully articulated. The ideas are extended effectively throughout the body paragraphs, meeting the criteria for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with logical organization. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving from financial stability to the benefits of discipline, and finally acknowledging counter-arguments before concluding. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the main advantages', 'Moreover', and 'Admittedly' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the response. However, occasional minor referencing issues and slightly mechanical transitions prevent the text from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organizational structure is solid and clear, warranting a Band 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, attempting less common items such as 'financial stability', 'unforeseen circumstances', 'personality development', and 'compound interest'. There are some minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'growing a strong compound interest', 'luxurious life according to a evolution', and 'come at expense of neglecting', which slightly impede natural flow. However, the vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey meaning clearly, and spelling is accurate throughout, placing the response comfortably within the Band 6.0 territory.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a decent command of grammatical structures. Complex sentences are used with relative success, as seen in conditional and concessive clauses ('Although spending money on higher education... enriches career advancement'). However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including sentence fragments ('rather than saving. I strongly agree'), missing articles ('during covid-19 pandemic', 'development of a organization'), and incorrect prepositions ('source of income' instead of 'sources'). These errors do not seriously impede communication but occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of the student's control.
