Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether everyone, including young people, should save money. The writer states a partial agreement, noting the need for savings during difficult times, but also presents contradictory points about unemployment and low income preventing savings. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and the overall position becomes slightly confused and contradictory between paragraphs. Furthermore, the response has a significant negative impact on Task Achievement because the length requirement is NOT met; the text contains only 205 words, falling 45 words short of the 250-word minimum. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the paragraphing and logical progression are weak. The introduction is immediately followed by a body paragraph starting with 'on the one hand', yet the subsequent paragraph begins abruptly with 'At the movement', which is confusing and contradictory in relation to the stated partial agreement. Cohesive devices are minimal, basic, and sometimes misused, such as 'consequently' and 'firstly'. The referencing within sentences is occasionally unclear, such as 'people who saves money can need for bad situation'. Overall, the logical progression is disrupted by abrupt shifts in stance and faulty cohesion, aligning with a band 5.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'partialy', 'unpredicitable', 'unemolpyment', and 'althogh'. The student attempts some less common phrases like 'financial condition' and 'financial security', but these are offset by inaccurate collocations such as 'low income rate' and 'financial work'. Vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a simple message, but the numerous lexical errors and limited range restrict the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex structures that are faulty, leading to frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people saves money', 'a younger people who save', 'people who saves'). There is also a complete lack of proper sentence boundaries in places, indicated by missing capital letters and periods. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the writing squarely at band 5.0.
