Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the importance of saving money for the future, including for young people, and presents a clear position of strong agreement. Ideas are introduced regarding mental health, unexpected hurdles, investments, and insurance. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated, such as the mention of mental health, which is not fully elaborated. The personal example regarding the friend Ahmed is relevant and supports the argument about insurance, although it becomes slightly convoluted in its expression. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and a clear stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraph breaks and transitions feel slightly abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthurmore', 'Addtionaly', and 'To sumup', but these words contain spelling inaccuracies and are sometimes applied mechanically. Referencing is generally clear, but sentence-to-sentence progression can be disjointed, occasionally requiring the reader to work harder to follow the logical flow. This aligns well with the Band 5 to Band 6 profile, leaning toward Band 5 due to inaccurate cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'necessities', 'insurance policies', and 'hurdles'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'humanlbeing life' instead of human life, 'motivate' instead of motivated, 'investments' instead of investing, 'surjuries' instead of surgeries, and 'crucials' instead of crucial. While these inaccuracies are noticeable and sometimes cause slight strain for the reader, the meaning is generally communicated, satisfying the requirements of Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and clause structures. Examples of errors include 'it also make us to fulfill', 'In my view i strongly', 'future that we cannot predict for our self', and run-on structures in the narrative about the friend. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, such as missing spaces after periods and commas. Because these frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the majority of sentences from being error-free, a Band 5 is appropriate.
