Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether everyone, including young people, should save money for the future, and presents a clear position in agreement throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported with some explanation, such as discussing billionaires and the challenges of economic conditions and unemployment. However, some arguments tend to be a bit generalised and under-developed, particularly in the second body paragraph where the connection between billionaires and everyday saving is somewhat disjointed. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, and the position is clear, fitting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, though paragraph boundaries and internal logical progression could be smoother. Cohesive devices are present, but referencing and linking are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'Without that practice they will get depressed' and 'For that reason,if people want to achive their dreams'. Furthermore, spacing issues after punctuation marks (e.g., 'achivement, saving' and 'saving,it') disrupt the flow. These features align with a Band 5.5 to 6.0; however, given the logical sequencing despite mechanical flaws, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'financial freedom', 'financial security', and 'detrimental economonies', but lexical control is uneven. There are noticeable spelling errors ('achive', 'busnisess', 'suerly', 'jobes', 'unemploynment', 'servive') and inappropriate word choices or word forms ('everyday practiced', 'lessen opportunities', 'works that effected harshly'). These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, though communication remains clear. The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, matching the descriptors for a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures like 'If young people start paying attention...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, articles, prepositions, and verb forms. Examples include 'paying attention on saving', 'for making their kids sensible', 'are make people for accepting', and 'It probably difficult'. Punctuation errors, specifically missing spaces after commas and periods, are pervasive throughout the text. Because errors occur frequently and can cause some difficulty for the reader, the response fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
