Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this contemporary era, concerns regarding financial stability have sparked an intense debate. While somepeople believe it is necessary especially for young people to save money for their future. However, Others may argue that young people should spend their earnings on enjoyment and leisure instead of saving. Moreover,I believe individuals should maintain a balance which means that they should spend some money on enjoymentand leisure and simultaneously save some money. As it builds financial security, fosters life long discipline and prepares individuals for unforeseen emergencies.

First and foremost, one of the main advantages of saving money is that it offers financial stability during unexpected circumstances. Unexpected emergencies

like health problems, family emergencies or unemployment can arise any moment without warning. Therefore, on such occasions having savings acts as a backup and can make a significant difference. In addition, Saving money enables young individuals to become more responsible and independant. Individuals who learn to manage their finances from an early age develop discipline and better planning skills. For e.g. students who save a proportion of their income can easily contribute to their education costs, rent or daily necessities this not only reduces stress but also prepares them for adult life where financial responsibility plays a crucial role.

On the Other hand, critics argue that young individuals should spend their earnings enjoying their lives without worrying about saving money. They believe that you only get one life and an individual _will never be eg the_ and you should spend it enjoying without worrying about the future. Although this view is understandable, yet it overlooks the fact that saving does not mean giving up completely on enjoyment.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that it is necessary for everyone especially the young adults to save money as it provides financial stability, fosters discipline and responsibility and also helps cope with unexpected circumstances. From my point of view, saving money does not mean giving up on enjoyment completely. Even small regular savings can have significant effect without limiting one's quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that balanced views should be adopted regarding saving versus spending. The position is maintained throughout the response. Ideas are extended and supported appropriately, such as mentioning the role of savings in handling unexpected emergencies and fostering personal discipline. For example, the student explains how managing finances from an early age helps young people contribute to education costs and rent. While some arguments could be explored in even greater depth, the response adequately covers the prompt and satisfies the requirements for a Band 7 performance under this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a logical layout, moving from an introductory stance to distinct body paragraphs supporting the main ideas, and concluding effectively. Paragraphing is used sufficiently. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition', 'On the Other hand', and 'In conclusion' are utilised to structure the arguments, though some transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, and the flow of information is well-managed throughout the text, earning a solid Band 7 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as 'financial stability', 'unforeseen emergencies', 'independant' (spelling error: independent), and 'financial security'. There are attempts to use less common lexical items, although occasional inaccuracies occur in word choice and spelling, such as spacing and punctuation issues ('somepeople', 'Moreover,I', 'independant', 'For e.g.'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the overall lexical adequacy aligns with a Band 6.0 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'Although this view is understandable, yet it overlooks...'). However, there are notable grammatical and punctuation errors, including run-on clauses, punctuation omissions around introductory elements, and awkward phrasing like 'an individual will never be eg the and you should spend it'. While these errors occasionally disrupt the reading flow, they rarely impede overall communication, placing this response firmly at Band 6.0.
