Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-defined position supporting the importance of saving money for future needs. The essay is appropriately developed throughout, presenting relevant arguments related to financial security, emergency situations, and peace of mind. While some ideas, such as the counter-argument regarding daily expenses, could have been expanded with deeper nuance, the main position is clearly sustained. Examples like job loss are appropriately utilised to illustrate the core arguments. The response aligns well with the Band 7 descriptors, as it covers all parts of the task with a clear position and extended, supported ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are generally well sequenced, and paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the response, transitioning from an introduction to supporting arguments, counter-arguments, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to that', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude it all' are used to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional minor awkwardness in transitions prevents the text from achieving a higher band. Overall, the structural flow satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common items such as 'paramount importance', 'self-reliance', and 'uncertainties'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'espacially', 'indiviusuals', 'endevors', 'sigificant', 'suitations', 'propective', and 'derive towards'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally flexible, but frequent slips in spelling and lexical collocation place it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences. However, there are numerous grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation slips, such as 'prove to be beneficial' instead of 'proving', 'saving money cause difficulty' instead of 'causes', 'is posses far sigificant measures', and 'is one losses a job' instead of 'if one loses a job'. These errors in subject-verb agreement, conditional clauses, and word forms occur frequently enough to impact the overall control of grammar, aligning the writing with the Band 6.0 descriptors where a mix of structures is used alongside recurrent errors.
