Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt that saving money is important, especially for young people. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as mentioning emergencies, financial independence, and government banking schemes. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or expressed with repetition, and the supporting examples are somewhat generalised. The position is maintained throughout the essay. When evaluated against the official descriptors, the response fits comfortably into Band 6, as it addresses the prompt adequately with relevant ideas, though further extension and depth would be required to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to divide distinct ideas, such as advantages of saving and examples regarding young people. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. Sentences are often joined in run-on structures or comma splices, such as in the sentence '...it gives you future freedom with its help you can be independent at very early stage of life with it you can complete your dreams...'. Referencing and logical transitions between some sentences lack precision, leading to a choppy reading experience. These features align with the Band 5 descriptors, where organisation is present but cohesive devices and referencing are inaccurate or over-used.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday financial concepts like 'medical bills', 'debts', 'retirement', and 'pocket money'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items such as 'unpredictable', 'independent', and 'recapitulation'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'way of think' instead of 'way of thinking', 'give hand to you' instead of 'lend a hand', 'job loose' instead of 'job loss', and 'artical' instead of 'article'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5 due to frequent inaccuracies in word formation and choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. The text contains frequent grammatical errors, run-on sentences, and missing punctuation marks, particularly full stops and commas. Examples of errors include 'Everyone in human existence has a different way of think as some people it is very vital...', 'if young people who comes in age group...', and sentences that span multiple clauses without proper delimitation. While the meaning remains discernible, errors are frequent and cause difficulty for the reader at times. This performance is characteristic of Band 5, featuring a limited range of structures where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty.
