Student answer (Band 7.5)

I strongly agree that young people should develop the habit of saving money for the future. Although spending money on present needs and experiences is important, having financial reserves can provide greater security and help young adults achieve their long-term goals.

One major reason why saving is important is that it provides financial protection against unexpected circumstances. Young people may face situations such as unemployment, medical emergencies or sudden educational expenses. If they have accumulated some savings, they can deal with these difficulties without having to rely heavily on their parents or borrow money. Moreover, developing this habit at an early age can encourage responsible financial behaviour throughout adulthood. People who regularly set aside a portion of their income are generally better prepared for major future expenses.

Another important benefit of saving is that it enables young people to achieve significant long-term objectives. For example, they may wish to pursue higher education, purchase a house or establish a business. Such ambitions often require substantial amounts of money, and regular saving can gradually make them financially achievable. In addition, savings can be invested in appropriate financial instruments, allowing individuals to generate additional income over time. Therefore, saving is not simply about restricting expenditure; it can also be a means of building financial independence and wealth.

However, this does not mean that young people should save every penny they earn. They also need to spend money on education, social activities and personal development. Excessive saving at the expense of their current well-being could be counterproductive. The most sensible approach is therefore to maintain a balance between enjoying the present and preparing for the future.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that saving money from a young age is highly beneficial because it provides financial security and helps people achieve important long-term goals. Nevertheless, young people should adopt a balanced approach in which saving is combined with reasonable spending on their present needs and development.
