Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the statement that saving money is important for young people. Ideas are presented and supported with relevant examples, such as preparing for unexpected medical treatments, vehicle repairs, and funding education or future business ventures. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from repetition in phrasing, such as repeating 'can deal with this situation' multiple times within the second paragraph. While the main aspects of the task are adequately covered, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and superficial, fitting the criteria for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as financial security versus long-term goal achievement. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The student relies on repetitive transitional phrases and shows weaknesses in referencing and linking clauses, seen in sentences like 'if they had savings like this so they can deal with this situation without depending completely on their or taking a loan.' Furthermore, punctuation errors, particularly run-on sentences and missing commas, disrupt the natural flow of ideas. These issues prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'financial security,' 'independent,' and 'long-term goals.' However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, the student writes 'youngsters or elder people' instead of 'older people,' 'to being very honest I am completely agreed' instead of 'agree,' and 'saves a quite amount' instead of 'quite a large amount.' These errors do not completely impede communication, but they highlight a lack of precision and a limited control over less common lexical items, aligning the response with Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting conditional clauses and relative pronouns. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and sentence construction, such as 'youngsters or elder people should save their money for future,' 'youngster more financially independent' (missing plural/article), and missing words in 'completely on their or taking a loan.' Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences lacking proper terminal punctuation or conjunctions. While simple sentences are often clear, the frequent errors in complex structures restrict the score to Band 5.0.
