Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that, saving money for the future is essential for everyone including children. I completely agree with this statement as this helps them to understand the value of money. The saved money will be useful during emergencies.

Young individuals tend to spend large sum of money as they lack the knowledge and value of money. Parents must encourage children to save money for the future. Young individuals will learn during this stage hence by incorporating them with such good activities will help them to save in the future also. It is crucial for everyone irrespective age to save and know the value of money. For instance, children learning to save money in a young age will know how valuable money is, and will continue doing this.

Furthermore, people who tend to save money will be able to use it during emergency situations. Individuals do not know when their empolyment ends; during this stage the saved amount will help them with basic utilities such as groceries, rents and bills for a certain period of time. For example, during the Covid pandemic many individuals have lost their jobs during this case the money saved hepled them to survive until they secured employment. Meanwhile, people who spent money without saving experienced several discomfort.

In conclusion, I agree that it is crucial for everyone to save money that includes even young individuals. Saving money will most certainly benefit them during emergency crisis for a period of time. It also helps children to know the value of money by saving for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt effectively by taking a clear position of complete agreement. The writer presents relevant ideas regarding how saving teaches children the value of money and provides a safety net during emergencies. The main points are extended with explanations and real-world examples, such as referencing the Covid-19 pandemic to illustrate job loss and financial survival. While some parts of the argument could be explored with even greater depth, the response covers all parts of the task well and maintains a consistent position throughout, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Furthermore" and "In conclusion," although referencing and linkage occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, as seen with phrases like "young individuals" and "save money." Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas: one paragraph for children learning to save, and another for emergency situations. Overall progression is clear, meeting the criteria for a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0; however, minor mechanical cohesion keeps it securely at a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms like "essential," "emergencies," "unemployment," and "utilities." However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and collocation errors, such as "incorporating them with such good activities" instead of engaging or involving them, and spelling slips like "empolyment" instead of employment. Less common items are attempted with mixed success, and the range is somewhat limited by repetition of basic words. This corresponds closely to the Band 6.0 descriptors, where vocabulary is adequate for communication despite occasional inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clause structures ("people who tend to save money will be able to use it"). There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including punctuation errors with commas (e.g., "It is argued that, saving money") and minor prepositional mistakes (e.g., "in a young age" instead of at a young age, and "helped them to survive" following a past tense context). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. This profile fits the Band 6.0 criteria well.
