Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is important for everybody, including teenagers, to save money for their future. I largely agree with this statement due to the fact that it can improve individuals overall quality of life and can foster greater financial security.

A particularly noteworthy advantage of saving money is its potential to boost the overall quality of life. This can largely be attributed to the fact that there will be more disporsable income, thereby enabling individuals to access their needs with ease. As a result of this, individuals may have lower stress, which can promote their well-being. This can be exemplified by the way people work nowadays. In most cities, most people work for long hours to earn their living. As a result of this, they may have little or no time to interact with their families, which can cause mentall instability. If people could save money for future, they may have more cash, which could help them reduce stress, eventually contributing to better life.

Another compelling benefit stems from the extent to which savings can foster financial security. This is particularly significant because encouraging individuals to save for future can give them a long-term benefit. By having access to money, people are better positioned to quality decision making, which can subsequently lead to unnecessary debt. For instance, if teenagers can accumulate their money, they may be able to pay for their university fees instead of relying on government funding or loans, which could bring unnnecessary debt. Ultimately, this can foster greater financial stability and quality of life.

To conclude, I strongly believe that it is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future because it can improve individual overall quality of life and can foster greater financial security.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the statement that saving money is important for everyone. Main ideas are presented and supported, such as improving the overall quality of life and fostering financial security. For example, the student explains how saving can reduce stress and help teenagers pay for university fees instead of relying on loans. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive or underdeveloped, such as the tangent regarding work hours and mental instability in the first body paragraph. Nevertheless, the position is well maintained, earning a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 for fully addressing the prompt with relevant, extended ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with a clear introduction, two well-defined body paragraphs, and a concise concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader, such as 'A particularly noteworthy advantage', 'As a result of this', and 'Another compelling benefit'. Paragraphing is used appropriately and logically. However, referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or mechanical (for instance, the heavy reliance on 'As a result of this'), which prevents the response from reaching the higher bands. Overall, the cohesion supports clear communication.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'disposable income', 'financial security', and 'financial stability'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'individuals overall quality' (instead of 'individuals' overall'), 'disporsable' (instead of 'disposable'), 'mentall' (instead of 'mental'), and 'quality decision making' (instead of 'qualify for decision making' or 'make quality decisions'). Furthermore, the phrase 'accumulate their money' is slightly unnatural. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 territory.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, utilising conditionals ('If people could save money...', 'if teenagers can accumulate their money...') and relative clauses. There is a reasonable level of grammatical control, but frequent minor errors and awkward phrasing persist, such as 'improve individuals overall quality' (missing apostrophe), 'lead to unnecessary debt' (where the context implies avoiding or preventing debt), and 'bring unnnecessary debt' (spelling slip). Despite these recurring flaws, complex structures are attempted with varying success, and punctuation is generally sound. The errors rarely impede communication, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
