Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that, it is necessary for everyone, including younger generation, to save money for future opportunities. I completely agree with this view because their saved amount can be comsumed later to fund for their higher education and also help young people to start a new business.

First and foremost, many youngsters use their saved money to pay for their university admissions and tution fee. It is often difficult for low-middle class families to manage their children's university expenses. Therefore, many students often start applying for the jobs after completing their high school or college. Additionally, some students prefer to learn technical skills that make them competant to work for factories or organizations as a skilled labour. For instance, in Pakistan, due to high inflation, it is very difficult for many families to provide university education to their children, which is why several students join armed forces or become technical labour in different organizations.

Another benefit of saved money is that young people can use that money to start a new business or become shop owners to earn income. It is often difficult for the developing countries to provide jobs to their younger generation due to their low budget. Therefore, people have to start their own business or open shops to earn money for their survival. For example, in several developing countries, due to high inflation, corruption and favoritism, several educated and talented people unable to secure government jobs, so they start their own business to fund their families.

In conclusion, it is important for everyone, including young people to save money, and later use that money to pursue higher education and start a new business to earn income for their families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that the student completely agrees with the statement that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. The ideas are relevant and supported by specific examples, such as funding higher education and starting a small business in Pakistan due to high inflation. The main arguments are extended with logical explanations regarding family financial constraints and job market realities in developing countries. However, the development tends to be somewhat repetitive in its focus on inflation and developing nations, which prevents it from reaching the highest bands. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear and consistent position throughout, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. Each body paragraph focuses on a distinct main idea introduced with appropriate cohesive phrases such as 'First and foremost' and 'Another benefit'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and the conclusion. However, there are minor cohesion issues and referencing lapses, such as in the second sentence where the comma usage is faulty ('argued that, it is necessary'), and occasional awkward transitions. Nevertheless, the logical flow is maintained throughout, and the essay is easy to follow, making Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7 appropriate. Given the clear paragraphing and logical sequencing, a score of 7.0 is well-supported.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'university admissions', 'tuition fee', 'high inflation', and 'government jobs'. There are also several attempts at less common lexical items, though some inaccuracies in spelling and word choice occur, such as 'comsumed' instead of 'consumed', 'competant' instead of 'competent', and 'tution' instead of 'tuition'. Furthermore, the phrase 'technical labour' is used where 'technically skilled workers' might be more natural. Despite these lexical slips and spelling errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly without impeding communication, fitting the Band 6 descriptor nicely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures reasonably well (e.g., 'For instance, in Pakistan, due to high inflation, it is very difficult...'). However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings scattered throughout the text. Examples include unnecessary comma splitting ('argued that, it is necessary'), subject-verb agreement or missing elements in sentences like 'several educated and talented people unable to secure government jobs', and minor prepositional inaccuracies. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from achieving a Band 7. A Band 6 accurately reflects the mix of structures alongside persistent grammatical flaws.
