Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt regarding whether young people and everyone else should save money for the future, presenting a basic position and some supporting ideas about security, avoiding debt, and business ventures. However, the response falls short of the minimum 250-word requirement, containing only 225 words. Because of this under-length penalty, the development of ideas remains restricted and somewhat repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points like 'safeguarding against future difficulties' are re-stated rather than fully extended with deep elaboration. Consequently, the response sits at Band 5.0 for Task Achievement, as it partially addresses the prompt and is limited by length constraints.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays basic paragraphing, dividing the response into an introduction and two body paragraphs, though the lack of a proper conclusion is noticeable. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'Furthermoreif', 'There our yongsters needs', and 'Additionally another reason'. Logical progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions and missing punctuation between sentences, as seen in 'future. This matter' and 'future whem'. While there is a discernible overall structure attempting to contrast saving with wasteful spending, the referencing and flow are faulty, aligning the response with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent spelling errors ('scure', 'yhis', 'especialy', 'fainacial', 'focous', 'buiusuness') and word-form inaccuracies ('safe money' instead of 'saving money', 'lose job' instead of 'losing a job'). The writer attempts some less common items such as 'luxury', 'hardships', and 'freedom', but lack of control and pervasive spelling mistakes restrict the range. Communication is occasionally strained due to these lexical limitations, placing the response firmly at a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak throughout. There are numerous errors in subject-verb agreement ('youngsters needs to focous'), missing articles ('in illness or lose job'), and run-on sentences or fragments ('There our yongsters needs to focous on to safe ,money and built any buisuness which can help them i future whem they are ill and in hardships'). Punctuation is frequently misused, with missing spaces after periods and commas placed incorrectly. Because frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader, this merits a Band 5.0 score.
