Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing that people, including young individuals, should save money for the future. Ideas are presented and supported with reasons, such as rising living costs (gold, property) and investment opportunities, and an example of a famous trader is given. However, the development remains somewhat limited and repetitive, and the ideas are not fully extended. For instance, the counter-argument regarding fraud is introduced abruptly in the introduction without subsequent development. Consequently, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0. Given the general coverage of the prompt and relevant ideas, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with basic paragraphing and standard transition markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, overall progression is hindered by frequent structural abruptness and incomplete thoughts, particularly near the end where the text trails off. Referencing and cohesive devices are at times faulty or mechanical, such as 'that also help them' and 'and they make a' ending abruptly. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks smooth transitions. This fits the description for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts to use a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, incorporating words like 'independent', 'emergency', 'investment', and 'market'. However, there are persistent lexical inaccuracies and word-choice errors, such as 'morden era' instead of 'modern era', 'save money' used as a noun phrase ('knowledge about save money'), and 'treader' instead of 'trader'. Spelling mistakes ('incresed', 'expencive', 'intresed') are noticeable and frequent throughout the response, which places this text securely in the Band 5.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and frequent coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty grammar and heavy punctuation errors, such as run-on sentences and missing articles ('every thingd become a expencive', 'every person invest their for their future', 'young people also getting knowledge'). Agreement and tense errors are prevalent ('they were become a best treader'). These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and align with the Band 4.5 or 5.0 descriptors; a score of 5.0 is awarded.
