Student answer (Band 5.5)

Saving money for the future must be learned by every individual, whether by elder or young. It must be considered as a significant skill to practice in daily life. I strongly agree that saving money for future can be benefical for young individuals.

Young people must be encouraged to save money so that they can be able to fund their own education in future without burdening their parents. People are unaware what future brings due to this reason, young people must learn to save money and this will also help them to manage their studies. For instance, many banks are offering account opening services to youngsters, where they can easily put their money as saving funds, therefore they can use that money to fund their own education in future.

If young individuals save money, they can easily buy their desired items whenever they want to. Sometimes, parents are not able to provide their child a thing which he or she needs, thus if youngsters had save their money, they can use saved money as an emergency fund to buy for what they desire. As a result, this will also built a sense of independency in them. For example, if a child wants to buy a toy and his parents are not capable to buy that toy for their child so money saves by a child can become a source to buy a toy for himself.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that saving money can be advantageous for young people because this will develop a sense of independency to manage their own education amd expenses in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear position that saving money is highly beneficial for young people. The main ideas are relevant, focusing on funding education and developing a sense of independence and financial management. However, the development of these ideas tends to be repetitive and somewhat simplistic. For instance, the second body paragraph relies heavily on the concept of funding education, while the third body paragraph repeats the example of buying a toy twice within the same explanation. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support lacks depth and variety, bringing it closer to the Band 6 descriptors where ideas are present but under-developed or somewhat repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'For instance', 'thus', and 'In conclusion', though some logical transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing and simple transitional links. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate and demonstrates a logical progression of ideas, aligning well with the Band 6 criteria for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'significant skill', 'emergency fund', 'independency', and 'advantageous'. There are, however, noticeable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'benefical' instead of beneficial, 'elders' instead of elder, 'amd' instead of and, and the awkward phrasing 'money saves by a child'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, the repetitive use of basic words and minor inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, placing it firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'If young individuals save money, they can easily buy their desired items'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms, modal usage, and agreement, such as 'whether by elder or young', 'People are unaware what future brings', 'thus if youngsters had save their money', and 'parents are not capable to buy'. Although these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall accuracy, the meaning remains largely transparent and communication is not severely impeded, making Band 5.5 an appropriate score for this criterion.
