Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and discussing reasons related to financial security and goal achievement. The ideas are generally relevant, though some arguments are repetitive or lack deep extension. For example, the point about private company employees facing unemployment is stated, but the explanation loops back to financial security rather than exploring further implications. Similarly, the example of a student saving pocket money supports the idea, but the phrasing is overly simplistic. The position remains clear throughout the essay. Because all parts of the prompt are addressed with a clear stance and supporting examples, this performance aligns well with Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the body into two main arguments and providing a distinct introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. The student relies heavily on repetitive cohesive phrases like 'As a result' and 'For instance' across sentences, which creates a slightly formulaic structure. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Another significant aspect of this view that why people save their money because enables them...' where structural linking breaks down. Paragraph progression is visible, but the overuse and inaccurate use of cohesive devices prevent the response from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', and 'unemployment period'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'particulary', 'foe', 'espacially', 'regulary', 'unemloyment', 'consistantly', 'dificult', and 'acheive'. Furthermore, collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'spend a large number of money' instead of 'a large amount of money' or 'have a opportunity'. Despite these limitations in accuracy and control, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, matching the criteria for Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and conditional structures like 'if a student saves a tiny part... can assist'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward clause structures, such as 'help to individuals to deal' and 'that why people save their money because enables them'. Punctuation is also lacking in places, particularly missing commas after introductory phrases and in the final concluding sentence. While the errors are frequent, they rarely completely impede communication, as the reader can still discern the core message. These features are characteristic of Band 5.0.
