Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, defensible position that everyone, including young people, should save money. The student supports this stance with relevant ideas, such as the increasing costs of technology for study and preparation for future crises or higher education. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or expressed with unusual terminology (e.g., suggesting 'todlers' need to save money for higher education), which limits depth. Nevertheless, the main arguments are clear and directly answer the prompt, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, addressing an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To start with', 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In Conclusion'. However, referencing and logical progression are sometimes affected by mechanical or faulty cohesion, and punctuation errors (such as missing spaces after commas and periods) disrupt the smooth flow of reading. While the structure is easy to follow overall, these cohesion flaws place the response firmly in Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including words like 'inflation', 'investment', 'advancement', and 'financial'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('inflantion', 'futher', 'todkers', 'perents') and inappropriate word choices (referring to toddlers needing to save for higher education). The lexical range is adequate to convey the main message, but the frequent errors in spelling and word formation restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if they keep money as a saving, they can use it') and subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('young ones also needs', 'every multitudes needs'), missing articles ('study abroad', 'lost job time'), and punctuation errors. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
