Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that saving money is beneficial for both older people and adults. However, the task achievement is heavily constrained by the length requirement, as the essay contains only 215 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This results in under-developed ideas, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about medical purposes and family responsibilities are introduced but lack deep explanation or varied examples. Furthermore, the writing contains several generalizations and repetitive arguments about youngsters and older individuals. Because the prompt is only partially developed due to word count limitations, it aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing some basic organization. Paragraphing is attempted, though the transition between ideas can feel abrupt. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'To elaborate', and 'Thus it be concluded that' are used, but some are inaccurate or mechanically applied, such as 'Thus it be concluded that, save money is important'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns and ambiguous phrases like 'such condition'. While there is an overarching logical structure separating older people from adults, the progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive phrasing and inadequate linking. This level of cohesion corresponds to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it features a limited range and frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples of lexical errors include 'spent' instead of 'spend', 'unxpected', 'benefecial', 'seperates', 'take policies', 'behond', and 'marrige'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'responsibilities' and 'policies', but inaccuracy is noticeable throughout the text. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. There is also repetition of basic words like 'save', 'money', and 'important'. Consequently, this performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, but attempts at complexity are frequently flawed. Grammatical errors are numerous and impact accuracy significantly. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('older people faces'), missing prepositions or incorrect infinitive forms ('prefer take policies', 'for built a house', 'save money is important'), and punctuation mistakes. While the meaning can generally be parsed, the frequency of structural errors creates noticeable difficulty for the reader. The control of grammar is inconsistent, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
