Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is certain that money is essential for every age group and this is the reason many people argue that habit of saving money should be introduced at a young age. They believe the saved money could be used in their future when required the most for example, for their college tutuion. However, I partially agree with this statment. I believe that money is there to be spent. Although, I strongly oppose unnecessary spending of money.
I believe saving money can be benefical in numerous ways. The save up many could be used for emergencies and upexpected events like job loss, hospital bill, and huge repair cost. Additionally, as inflation rate rises many students from a low-income family find it difficult to pay their tution fee thus they are forced to take several loans with high intrest rates. In contrast, those who have saved enough money doesn’t need loans. For instance, many parents open student college funds to help pay for their children in future.
Secondly, those who have developed a habit of saving money can become financially more responsible. They avoid spending their hard-earned money on unnecessary product. A study suggest that a person who saves money is less likely to spend money on illrelevant products than a person who doesn’t. The saved money could be spent for purchasing a house or starting a business.
On the other hand, many people suggest that money is there to be used and not saved up, however, they simply ignore the fact that no one comes from same financial condition. For example, a wealthy person doesn’t needs to save the money, while a low-income person has to save.
In conclusion, while saving money could be beneficial in unexpected events and future plans. However, a person sould not completely stop spending money on themselves and their families. A balance should be kept on how much money is to be saved and how much is there to be used.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, partial position on whether everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Ideas are generally well-supported, such as mentioning emergencies, inflation, and financial responsibility, though some arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed. For instance, the reference to paying college tuition is apt, but the distinction between saving and spending could be pushed further. The writer presents a clear overview throughout the essay, demonstrating a good understanding of the prompt's requirements, which aligns well with the criteria for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the benefits of saving in the second and third paragraphs, and the counter-argument in the fourth. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with transitional phrases like 'In contrast,' and 'On the other hand,' used somewhat predictably. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'The save up many could be used,' where cohesive referencing breaks down due to lexical errors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items like 'financial responsibility' and 'inflation rate'. However, there are notable word-choice and spelling errors that detract from precision, such as 'tutuion' instead of tuition, 'upexpected' instead of unexpected, 'intrest' instead of interest, 'illrelevant' instead of irrelevant, and grammatical form errors like 'doesn't need loans' (where 'don't' or plural alignment is needed). While communication is not impeded, these frequent inaccuracies prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambitious structures like conditional and subordinate clauses ('Although, I strongly oppose unnecessary spending of money' or 'while saving money could be beneficial...'). However, punctuation and grammatical errors are noticeable throughout the text, including fragment sentences, subject-verb agreement issues ('those who have saved enough money doesn’t', 'a wealthy person doesn’t needs'), and awkward transitions ('In conclusion, while saving money could be beneficial...'). These errors occasionally cause minor strain for the reader.
