Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with relevant reasons and personal examples. The stance is maintained throughout the essay. In the body paragraphs, the writer provides explanations regarding financial independence and managing difficult circumstances, using appropriate personal anecdotes. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly brief, and the arguments could be extended further with broader societal examples rather than relying solely on personal experiences. The response successfully covers the prompt, aligning well with the Band 6 or Band 7 descriptors. Because the position is clear and all parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant supporting ideas, a score of 6.5 is awarded, leaning towards Band 7 for its clear stance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One of the main reason', 'Another important reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through the text. However, there are some mechanical transitions and referencing issues, such as the missing preposition in 'One of the main reason' and minor punctuation or run-on errors like 'goals.so this year'. Furthermore, paragraph transitions could be smoother. Overall, the organization is logical, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well, though it demonstrates clear attempts at structured progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'financial independent', 'circumstances', and 'investing'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the response, including 'getting high day by day' instead of 'rising day by day', 'financial independent' instead of 'financially independent', 'my that income', and 'getitng closer'. Spelling slips also occur, such as 'definetly' and 'achive'. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6, as the vocabulary control lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, prepositions, and word forms. Examples include 'In personally believe', 'One of the main reason that', 'before few years back', and missing articles or punctuation errors like lowercase letters after periods ('goals.so', 'circumstances.So'). Although these errors occur regularly, the majority of sentences communicate their intended meaning without completely impeding the reader's understanding. This performance reflects the core characteristics of Band 6, where a mix of structures is used alongside persistent errors in grammar and punctuation.
