Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is necessary to save money for people of every age group. In my opinion, saving money either by the young or old is not that important. The thing that matters most is to make your life easy with luxuries if you can afford it.
It has been often seen that people who spend their life saving money for difficult times or for old age did not enjoyed their life much. Such people spent all their youth worrying about the later and do not enjoy what they have at the moment. For instance, a person works hard and saved alot of money but has died before using it. The money he saved would be of no use to him. Moreover, saving money for something to buy later and making life difficult at a very young age is not a wise decision. For example, an individual saves money to buy an expensive car and till than suffer traveling via local transport. However, if he bought the car in the budget he currently has would save him alot of energy and time.
On the other hand, in some cases saving is considered as a smart choice. The majority of people have to support their families, pay bills or support the education of their children. In such situations having some amount saved is a blessing. Furthermore, if a family faces some medical emergency, which is not covered by their insurance can utilize the saved money. Additionally, Saving some amount can also prevent from financial crisis. At the time of pandemic many people has lost their job. In my experience, some of my colleagues who had savings were more relaxed than others.
In conclusion, preparing yourself to overcome an emergency is a good approach but that should not come at the price of compromising your current life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student addresses the prompt directly by debating the importance of saving money versus enjoying the present. A clear position is established in the introduction where the writer disagrees with the notion that saving money is universally crucial at all ages. The body paragraphs attempt to support this stance by discussing the potential pitfalls of over-saving, such as dying before spending or suffering through youth to buy luxuries later. Counter-arguments regarding emergencies and family support are also explored. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or rely on extreme examples, such as a person dying before using their savings. While the task is addressed and ideas are extended, the reasoning occasionally lacks nuance, placing this response firmly in Band 6.0 territory.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear introductory paragraph, body paragraphs representing contrasting views, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the disadvantages of saving in paragraph two and the advantages in paragraph three. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition markers like 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally'. However, referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences within paragraphs occasionally lacks smooth logical progression, and referencing words like 'the later' (referring to later life) are imprecise, leading to minor clarity issues.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating ideas about financial security, luxuries, and emergencies. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'financial crisis', 'medical emergency', and 'luxuries', though there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'did not enjoyed' (morphological error), 'saved alot' (spelling/collocation), and 'till than' instead of 'until then'. Spelling errors like 'alot' occur multiple times. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands where greater precision and control are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'However, if he bought the car...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency and agreement, such as 'people who spend their life saving money... did not enjoyed their life much' and 'during the time of pandemic many people has lost their job'. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'group. In my opinion'), are also present. While the errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the writer from achieving a Band 7.0.
