Student answer (Band 6.0)

"Saving money is a good habit." In the contemporary era, financial stability is a pivotal role in everyone's lifes. It is argued that young people often spend their money in education, entertainment and personal expenditures. I vehemently agree with this statement that everyone should develop a good hobby to saving monetary value for future.

The primary reason why saving money is significant is that it provides financial security during unexpected situation, namely medical emergency, unemployment and urgent family responsibilities. Therfore, having some saving money can use in difficult situation without any dependency or taking loans. Moreover, saving allows to bring or achieve future goals, such as owning house, pursuing higher education, bring a car and starting new business. For example, many Indian students save 15% part of their income from part-time works or internships to used this funds on postgraduate education, which can reduce their dependence on their parents.

Another significant reason for saving income is that saving teaches financial stability and responsibilities for their family. Young children regularly set aside some part of their income, they become aware about how money spend and what is necessary or not. This hobby particularly useful in adulthood time, when they have greater responsibilities. However, people should sacrifies present entertainments like their hobbies, travel, and leisure activities.

To recapitulate, saving money is essential for all ages people, including young adults. Although enjoying the present is important, developing 15% to 20% saving money of total income in early life can provide financial security, independence and greater opportunities in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement and extending well-developed ideas. The writer explains why saving money is crucial for unexpected situations and achieving future goals, supporting points with a relevant example regarding Indian students. The position remains consistent throughout the essay. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, such as stating that people should always sacrifice present entertainments, which keeps the score at Band 7.0. The ideas are extended and supported with sufficient depth to satisfy the requirements of this band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing emergencies and future goals, and finishing with a logical conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'Moreover', and 'Another significant reason', though some linking words are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Therfore' (with a spelling error) and 'However' where a different transition might fit better. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall progression is easy to follow, aligning closely with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'financial stability', 'pivotal role', 'unemployment', and 'independent'. However, there are several word choice and collocation errors, such as 'financial stability is a pivotal role' (instead of plays a pivotal role), 'lifes' (lives), 'bring a house' (buy/own a house), and 'adulted time' (adulthood). There are also spelling errors like 'Therfore' and 'sacrifies'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching higher bands, making a Band 6.0 the most accurate reflection.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, frequent grammatical and structural inaccuracies occur throughout the text, such as 'spend their money in education' (on education), 'saving monetary value for future' (save money for the future), 'saving money can use in difficult situation' (can be used in difficult situations), and 'allow to bring or achieve' (allows for achieving). Punctuation and article usage are also occasionally faulty. These errors indicate a solid Band 6 level where complex structures are attempted but are frequently marred by inaccuracies.
