Student answer (Band 6.0)

Saving money for the future is among the positive attributes of an individual, however, in the recent era where life is adversely expensive and a luxurious lifestyle appeals to the majority of the society, spending less money derives a compressed state of holding desires. Regardless of a human nature, the young age exclusively dominates here because of their curiosity, enthusiasm, and excitement about life standards and choices, sometimes dismissing the reservation of money.

We are living in a world where unpredictable moments arise at any time, for instance, a car accident where the other was negligible on road causing a detrimental loss of the car. A little misunderstanding caused a job replacement, which in return, dropped the financial career for a certain period. And likewise, there can be numerous situations of uncertainty for which, not a lumpsome but a reasonable bank balance is a requirement.

As the world is getting advanced with digitalisation and social media serves to acknowledge people with the latest trends or updates about modernised cars, lavish homes, elite restaurants and other digital gadgets to create that personal urge to earn this lifestyle, thus minimizing the intuition of securing cash for a sudden mishap or a financial crisis. Youngsters, particularly those who are willing for a better tomorrow should highly integrate into such initiatives either saving money in banks or investing a calculated amount in an appropriate business, as a share holder, for a profitable outcome, to enjoy a long-term monetary benefit.

Despite the fact that the living of today is not so much cost-effective and people trying to be competitive with the society acts as a barrier to save it. However, it is a self reliance and a mature mindset to save money for any future inconvenience.

I personally believe that everyone deserves to adore a lifestyle they dream, however, holding back saves a person from debt, or a sudden financial loss.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether everyone, particularly young people, should save money for the future. The writer takes a clear, supportive position on the issue, stating that saving safeguards against uncertainties and debts. Ideas are generally relevant, covering modern lifestyle pressures, unexpected expenses like accidents, and financial planning options. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from slightly convoluted reasoning, which places the response securely in the Band 6 territory. For instance, the discussion on digital media and modern desires touches on a strong point, but the connection to savings is expressed in a rather rambling manner. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, separating distinct ideas such as unexpected life events and digital-age pressures. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. Sentences are sometimes joined awkwardly, such as starting a sentence with 'And likewise' or using disconnected transitional phrases like 'thus minimizing the intuition'. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen in the phrase 'people trying to be competitive with the society acts as a barrier to save it', where the pronoun 'it' lacks a clear antecedent. Logical progression within paragraphs stumbles at times due to complex sentence structures collapsing under the weight of abstract phrasing, leading to a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic discussion, incorporating phrases like 'adversely expensive', 'compressed state of holding desires', and 'monetary benefit'. There is an adequate range for the task, with some less common items attempted, such as 'digitalisation', 'delrimental loss', and 'lumpsome' (though misspelled). However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation throughout the text, such as 'derives a compressed state' and 'negligible on road', which reduce precision. Spelling errors, like 'lumpsome' instead of lumpsum/lump sum and 'share holder', also occur. These errors do not impede overall communication, placing the lexical performance at a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward syntactic arrangements that disrupt the flow. For example, the opening sentence is a massive, fused structure containing multiple clauses joined weakly by conjunctions ('Saving money for the future is among the positive attributes of an individual, however, in the recent era...'). Other errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('people trying to be competitive... acts as a barrier') and sentence fragments ('And likewise, there can be numerous situations...'). While the meaning can generally be parsed by the reader, the density of grammatical slips prevents the score from rising above a Band 5.5 or 6.0; a Band 6 is awarded as communication is rarely fully blocked.
