Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of strong agreement regarding the importance of saving money for young people and everyone else. The ideas presented are relevant, such as funding education and preparing for retirement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, and some supporting points lack clarity or logical connection, such as confusing assets and liabilities when discussing houses and cars. While the task is addressed, the arguments do not reach the depth and thorough extension expected at higher band levels. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptors, where the task is addressed with relevant ideas, but some are under-developed or unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. There is a progression of ideas from education to retirement. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical, with awkward transitions like 'One of the crucial reason is for education purpose' and 'Furthermore, saved funds also helps'. Referencing and substitutions are occasionally unclear, and there is noticeable repetition of cohesive phrases such as 'crucial role' and 'for their future'. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 to Band 6 range, matching the descriptor for coherent overall arrangement where cohesion is sometimes faulty and referencing is not always clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, including terms like 'expenses', 'retirement', 'graduation', and 'assets'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'collecting money is plays significant role', 'takes lone', and 'travel whole worlds'. Additionally, word formation errors are common, such as 'young generation' instead of 'the younger generation' and 'older aged group' instead of 'older age group'. While the vocabulary used is adequate to convey the general message, these persistent inaccuracies and limited precision restrict the score to Band 5, reflecting a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many believes', 'saving money can plays', 'saved funds also helps'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('collecting money is plays', 'takes lone'), and awkward phrasing. Complex structures are frequently faulty. Because errors are dense and persistent throughout the text, impairing grammatical control, this performance fits the Band 5 descriptor, characterized by a limited range of structures and frequent errors.
