Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this world of modernity and inflation, everyone needs to save money for their future, whether they are young people or elderly persons. I agree with this statement completely, since I also believe that necessity doesn't knock before arriving.

The habit of saving money is one of the wisest habit as well as strategy to survive in the fast-growing era. It is very unpredictable, when we need money for a specific event that we never expect of coming. There are so many stages in our day to day life when a unexpected call for urgent money comes. So, people who are saving even a small amount regularly can be saved from the strees of arranging urgent money for anything. For instance, if someone comes to know that a big amount of money is needed for the love ones' major operation of heart, he might get tensed to arrange the money. But, if he already has a good amount saved by him, that would be a relief.

Additionally, saving money is essential for future investments as well. The saved money would be helpfull in any event in the future. Not only it could help in emergency situations, it could also be used to fulfil a wish of an individual. For example, a person is wishing to buy a pair of gold earring for her mother and saving a good amount of money monthly. After a certain time, that person would be able to meet that wish by the money she was saving.

To conclude, the given examples and explanations clearly justify the necessities of saving money by all the people, including the young people, for the betterment of their future. People, who save money will not regret in any emergency situation that brings unwelcoming need for money. Though the saved amount could not be enough, it would be a small gesture of hope in the both the bad and good days.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, complete position in agreement with the statement that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Ideas are well supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as saving for medical emergencies or purchasing a gift for a family member. The main arguments are extended appropriately, although the supporting examples tend to be somewhat generalised or anecdotal rather than fully developed analytical points. Nevertheless, the prompt is thoroughly addressed throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7 in task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-theme (emergencies versus future goals/investments). Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'Additionally,' 'For instance,' and 'To conclude.' However, some cohesion is occasionally mechanical or repetitive (e.g., frequent use of 'money' and simple transitional phrases). Referencing is generally clear, though occasional minor awkwardness in phrasing slightly disrupts the natural flow, aligning the text well with Band 6.5 or Band 7 standards.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'inflation,' 'unpredictable,' 'emergency situations,' and 'betterment.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'one of the wisest habit' (instead of habits), 'a unexpected call' (instead of an), and 'love ones' major operation' (instead of loved ones'). Spelling and word formation are mostly functional, but these inaccuracies indicate limitations in precise lexical control, placing this criterion firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional-style structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'People, who save money will not regret...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the response, such as missing articles ('a unexpected call'), incorrect pluralisation ('wisest habit'), and awkward comma placement ('People, who save...'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band, reflecting the characteristics of Band 6.0.
