Student answer (Band 6.0)

Savings depend on money management. The importance of saving money is indispensable. Therefore, it is crucial for everyone including young people to save money for their future and I largely agree with this statement.

One of the major reasons is saving provides long-term financial security. Only earning money is not enough. After fulfilling the basic needs individuals must save at least 20% of their income. This little amount of savings may help them in various ways in the future. Also, there are varieties of ways to save money nowadays, such as savings account, fixed deposit etc. Everyone including students can save a proportion of their income using these methods. For example, sometimes people may quit jobs suddenly and if they have some savings, they can rely on this and may quit the job immediately.

Furthermore, savings also needed for security in life. People may face serious sickness, or they face some kind of financial difficulties in life, it is their savings which could help them in that time. For instance, this can help people dealing with loss in the business and they may not apply for loan in the bank. Saving money plays a significant role here.

Money saving is not an easy task, and it is not only important for older people but also for young people. Every school should teach the basic financial rules and money management techniques to the students. This may help children to learn the importance of saving money from their childhood.

In conclusion, I believe, savings might help people during their difficult time, and it is essential for everyone to save some money for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-supported position that everyone, including young people, should save money. The writer extends ideas adequately across body paragraphs, discussing financial security, emergency preparedness, and the educational role of schools. For instance, the argument that savings help people navigate sudden job loss or business downturns provides relevant, real-world examples. However, some ideas border on generalisation, such as stating individuals must save at least 20 percent of their income, which prevents the essay from reaching the highest band levels. Overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, and the position remains consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting from financial security to emergency funds and finally educational aspects. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Furthermore,' 'For example,' and 'In conclusion,' though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct thoughts neatly. While referencing is generally clear, occasional awkward phrasing in transitional sentences disrupts the absolute fluidity of the argument, placing the text comfortably in the Band 6 to 7 range.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'financial security,' 'money management,' and 'fixed deposit.' There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable' and 'proportion,' though some word choices and collocations are slightly imprecise, as seen in 'savings also needed for security' (omitting 'are') and 'dealing with loss in the business.' Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating adequate control over basic structures. Examples of successful complex structures include 'Only earning money is not enough' and 'After fulfilling the basic needs individuals must save at least 20% of their income.' However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward constructions throughout, such as 'savings also needed' and 'or they face some kind of financial difficulties in life, it is their savings which could help them.' Punctuation is sometimes weak, lacking commas after introductory phrases. These errors rarely impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher score.
