Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing that everyone, including young people, should save money. However, the essay is severely underdeveloped and crucially fails the length requirement, containing only 177 words compared to the 250-word minimum. This significantly limits the development of ideas, leaving supporting points regarding healthcare, housing, and education somewhat truncated and incomplete, with the final sentence even trailing off unfinished ('make more perfec'). Because of the under-length penalty and lack of full extension, the response fits the Band 4 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some basic organisation with introductory and body paragraph transitions such as 'to begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Eventually'. However, the progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing, erratic punctuation, and incomplete sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph breaks off abruptly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are used in a mechanical or repetitive fashion. Overall, the arrangement shows some basic coherence, but organizational faults and mechanical cohesion place it at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes ('momey', 'yougster', 'thier', 'effort' instead of afford, 'diffcult', 'perfec'). The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'healthcare', 'education', and 'business', but the limited range and noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical repertoire. This aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The text features a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent punctuation and capitalization errors (e.g., lowercase letters at the beginnings of sentences like 'it is often argued'). Complex structures are rarely attempted and are often faulty or incomplete. Errors in grammar, such as missing prepositions or incorrect verb forms ('hence save money is a good habit'), are frequent and impede readability. This performance corresponds to a Band 4.
