Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt and discussing why saving is important for both adults and young people. In the introduction, the writer states, 'Hence, I fully agree with this assertion as it ensures the sense of security, safeguards human lives and helps to earn societal dignity.' Body paragraphs develop these ideas reasonably well, touching on emergencies, healthcare, societal respect, and starting early habits. However, some arguments lack deeper extension or rely on slight repetition. For example, the point about societal respect is somewhat generalised. Overall, the task is addressed well, fitting comfortably into the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, warranting a score of 6.5 for sound task coverage with minor under-development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a logical overall progression and is divided into appropriate paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, using words such as 'Moreover', 'Hence', 'Another perception is that', and 'In addition'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive, as seen with the consecutive sentences starting with 'To get advance medical care...' and 'To provide a better life...'. Paragraphing is generally handled well, though the conclusion is very brief. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, showing coherent overall arrangement despite some mechanical cohesion and referencing issues.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'uncertainty', 'pre-condition', 'societal dignity', and 'cultivate the habit'. There are, however, noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies that reveal limitations, such as 'its crucial in every stages' (instead of 'every stage'), 'financial ability is must needed' (instead of 'financial ability is much needed'), and 'handsome amount of money' (a slightly unnatural collocation in this context). Spelling and word-form errors like 'childrens' instead of 'children' also appear. Nevertheless, communication is never impeded by these lexical slips, placing this essay firmly in the Band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional and participial clauses, such as 'If you have any saving then you don't have to go to others for help' and 'If a student saves some money ever month... they will save a lot money'. Grammatical accuracy fluctuates. There are several punctuation, article, and agreement errors, such as missing singular/plural markers ('Future is full of uncertainty' instead of 'The future', 'saving' instead of 'savings', 'ever month' instead of 'every month') and missing auxiliary verbs. Despite these recurring errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the mixture of structures supports a Band 6 rating.
