Student answer (Band 4.5)

It is often argued that it is important for eveybody specially young people to save many for their future life while some people may hold a diffrent view, I firmly believe that it is beneficial to earn money at an early age for my several compelling

One of the primary reasons why i support this view is that saving money helps people deal with unexpected expenses, such as medical bills, unemployment, or emergencies

Furthermore futur goals provides another convicing argument in favour of this position in another words young people can save for important goals such as university, buying a house, starting a business, or getting married

and the idea of less financial stress this is largely because having savings means people are less dependent on loans or other people when they face financial difficulties

this demonstrates that it is very important to save money

In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future because it provides financial security and helps them achieve their future goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response clearly presents a position in agreement with the statement, arguing that saving money is beneficial for young people. However, the essay is severely under-length, containing only 173 words compared to the required 250-word minimum. This results in significant under-development of the ideas presented. While reasons such as unexpected expenses, future goals, and financial stress are mentioned, they are stated abruptly without sufficient extension or detailed examples. Furthermore, the shift in the introduction from general perspectives to personal pronoun use ("for my several compelling") indicates some lack of clarity in task execution. Due to the failure to meet the minimum word count and the resulting limited development, this criterion is capped at a lower band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text demonstrates a basic overall arrangement, starting with an introduction, moving through brief supporting points, and finishing with a conclusion. However, the lack of punctuation is a major issue; the body of the essay contains almost no full stops, commas, or capitalisation at sentence boundaries, making it run on as a single continuous stream of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, such as "in another words" instead of "in other words". Paragraphing is also disrupted, with several distinct ideas lumped together without proper structural separation. This severely affects the logical progression and readability of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, featuring everyday terms like "save money," "future life," and "important goals." There are several spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including "eveybody," "specially," "many" instead of money, and "diffrent." Attempts at less common vocabulary are very limited, and collocation is sometimes weak, such as "futur goals provides another convicing argument." While the words used are generally common enough to convey the basic gist of the message, the numerous lexical inaccuracies and restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple structures and run-on clauses linked by conjunctions. The complete absence of punctuation throughout the main body is a severe grammatical and mechanical flaw, meaning there are virtually no error-free sentences. There are frequent errors in word forms, spelling, and sentence boundaries. For instance, clauses run into one another without any separation, such as "One of the primary reasons why i support this view is that... furthermore futur goals provides another... and the idea of less financial stress..." Control over basic sentence architecture is weak, resulting in frequent difficulty for the reader.
