Student answer (Band 5.5)

IT IS OFTEN ARGUED THAT EVERYONE, INCLUDING YOUNG PEOPLE,

SHOULD PUT ASIDE SOME OF THEIR INCOME FOR THE FUTURE. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS VIEW BECAUSE SAVING MONEY PROVIDES FINANCIAL SECURITY AND HELPS YOUNG PEOPLE PREPARE FOR THEIR FUTURE NEEDS AND GOALS.

THE HABIT OF SAVING MONEY SINCE CHILDHOOD HELPS CHILREN TO CONTINUE THIS THING IN FUTURE. THIS MONEY CAN BE USED IN UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS SUCH AS ANY HOSPITAL EMERGENCY OR FOR ANY UNPAID BILLS. MOREOVER, SAVING MONEY MAKES A PERSON UNDERSTAND HOW AND WHERE TO UTILISE IT IN AN APPROPRIATE WAY.OTHER THAN THAT, SAVED MONEY CAN BE USED FOR STUDY PURPOSES LIKE GETTING ADMISSION INTO YOUR DREAM UNIVERSITY.

NOT ONLY THIS, BUT SAVINGS ACTUALLY PREVENT A PERSON FROM NY KIND OF EMBARRASEMENT IN FUTURE THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE FACE DUE TO FINANCIAL INSTABILITY. IN ADDITION TO THIS, RESERVED MONEY COULD BE TO DO A GOOD DEED LIKE HELPING POOR PEOPLE OR DONATING IT TO AN ORPHANAGE..

HOWEVER, YOUNG CHILDREN ARE NOT ABLE TO ENJOY THEIR CHILDHOOD FULLY AS THEY THINK MONEY IS IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING. THEY LEARN TO PRIORITIZE MONEY WHICH IS GOOD, BUT THIS ALSO PREVENTS THEM FROM DOING SMALL THINGS THAT MAKE A CHILDHOOD LIVELY.

IN CONCLUSION, THERE ARE PONS AND CONS TO SAVING MONEY, BUT THERE ARE ALOT MORE PONS THAN CONS. TO UNDERSATND THE VALUE OF MONEY, A CHILD SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAVE MONEY BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY DO NOT GO FOR ACTIVITIES THEY ENJOY. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THAT BALANCE OF SPENDING AND SAVING MONEY.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement and discussing both the benefits of saving money and a minor counter-perspective regarding childhood enjoyment. The ideas are generally relevant, such as mentioning financial security, emergencies, and university fees. However, some points remain slightly under-developed and rely on generalisations, which places this response comfortably at Band 6.0. The conclusion attempts to balance the pros and cons, aligning with the requirements of a 'to what extent' essay, though further elaboration on why savings outweigh disadvantages would elevate the score further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and summarized in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, though the layout in all-caps text makes structural boundaries less standard. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'MOREOVER', 'IN ADDITION TO THIS', and 'HOWEVER', but referencing and linking can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly abrupt, such as the transition into the counter-argument. Progression is generally logical, leading to a solid Band 6.0 for this criterion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'financial security', 'unexpected situations', and 'financial instability'. There are, however, some noticeable spelling errors, such as 'CHILREN', 'EMBARRASEMENT', 'ALOT', and 'UNDERSATND', alongside awkward lexical choices like 'continue this thing in future'. While less common vocabulary is attempted, errors in word choice and spelling prevent the score from reaching a Band 7.0, making Band 6.0 the most appropriate descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and participial structures ('NOT ONLY THIS, BUT SAVINGS ACTUALLY PREVENT...'). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation inconsistencies throughout the text, such as missing articles ('help poor people') and clumsy phrasing ('young children are not able to enjoy their childhood fully as they think money is important than anything'). Despite these frequent errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and the sentence structures demonstrate a sufficient variety to secure a Band 6.0.
