Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by expressing a clear position in favor of the statement regarding saving money. Relevant ideas are presented, such as preparing for financial difficulties and achieving long-term goals, satisfying the core requirements of the prompt. However, some ideas are under-developed or less fully explored. For instance, the mention of purchasing advanced technology gadgets like multi-core processor computers and AI glasses feels slightly tangential and detracts from the main argument about securing a stable future. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all main ideas with more fully elaborated explanations and pertinent examples, while maintaining a tighter focus on the primary theme throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the body into distinct points about unexpected financial hardships and individual independence. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in abrupt shifts between ideas within the second body paragraph. Additionally, the progression of thoughts can feel slightly disjointed due to phrasing choices. To achieve a higher standard, the writer should ensure that ideas flow more naturally into one another using sophisticated referencing and smoother transitional phrases, thereby establishing a clearer and more seamless overall progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common expressions such as 'financial independence', 'favourable results', and 'psychology of money'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('benifit', 'priorty', 'immposible', 'nedded', 'moderm', 'stcok', 'acheive', 'psychoylogy') and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'by invest in properties' and 'having saving'. These errors occasionally cause mild strain for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. To progress further, the writer must expand their lexical range and improve accuracy in spelling, word forms, and collocations, using less common items with greater precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences. There are, however, a number of grammatical errors involving articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'having saving is helpful', 'the health insurance play', 'in thesen conditions', and 'without any saving'. Punctuation and sentence structures also display recurring inaccuracies that require attention. Despite these issues, the errors rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next level, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences, improve control over complex grammatical structures, and refine the management of articles and prepositions within grammatical patterns.
